This thing was always very much home based for me but the residency has served to provide me with the opportunity to converse and speculate about the journal. This has been very useful as i feel I'm at quite a cross roads with it. This residency wasn't so much about giving me materials or even space but simply the reason to develop something. This is important for an early-career artist/writer like myself as I have so much other stuff going on. I don't have time to loll around doing this and that as I please but rather I do things for very definite reasons. Also, you have to think about justification - how can I justify doing this Journal? It sometimes isn't enough to do it because it's good for you and your career - you need a concrete reason like an exhibition to work towards, or a residency or a commission etc.
I'm very decided that this journal will be changing in the following ways:

The journal is no longer monthly - this was too much pressure and I found I didn't have enough time to really get connected with it.

I am no longer just the editor - I wasn't involved enough with the journal and this would, in the end, have left me getting bored and frustrated with it - also the quality of the journal suffers when I am acting as an organiser and not an artist/writer.

A strong part of the journal will be as a space for collaboration between me and other professionals or other professionals together - this way the journal acts as more of an artwork in itself. Criticism and critical debate will still run alongside this activity and the journal won't become some sort of image book - writing will stay as its most important aspect.

I will endeavor to get some funding for this journal so that I can start paying contributors and covering costs for myself.

I need to spend more time marketing this thing and developing distributors as no-one knows about it!

The next thing to happen is the production of the 3 (maybe 4) issues that I am working on at the moment - these will be unveiled and sold at the AA2A exhibition at UCLan 6th - 17th September this year.

Best,

Tracey

Residency at UCLan - AA2A

I'm about half way through my residency at UCLan to develop TLAJ. I've felt a little funny about doing a journal for an artists residency and its been really helpful in strange ways. I'm quite different from the other artists on the scheme who are studio based but actually this journal is a strong part of my practice as an artist and helping it is definitely helping me. It been quite slow starting but Ive got 2 project-journals on the go and more in the pipeline before the end of the scheme.
The most important thing is definitely thinking about where I want this journal to go and deciding how much of 'me' I want to put in it!

New AA2A inspired issues out soon!
Tracey

Lancashire Zine, Artists Book and Multiples Fair 29-30th Jan UCLan

Organised by Craig Atkinson, Cafe Royal this fair will be in 'The Atrium' at University Central Lancashire. type='text'>Issue 3

Third Issue:

Following a meeting with performance artist Lena Simic Issue 3 will discuss the assimilation of art into lifestyle and will ask 3 questions:

What is a womens place in the home?

What is a womens role as an artist?

What will women become in the future?

Lena's performaces blur the distinction between home-life and artistic practice and ask us, where do these boundaries begin and end?

http://www.lenasimic.org/

TLAJ is looking for voluntary submission of interesting text for Issue 3 under
